TM's dard-filled sweet voice goes straight to one's heart. Shammi Kapoor
acts creditably but looks the callow youth that he was then. Pradeep Kumar
or Guru Dutt might have played his role better.Nutan, though only 17,
conveys maturity and depth even through her minimal vocalization in this
clip. Her acting gifts were in a class by themselves; she was a young
bundle of sophistication and natural talent from the get-go. Thanks, Rajeev.

I have strong conviction that
shammikapoor was an ideal actor to play
th role of miserable Qais(Majnu) who was vehemently antagonised,brutalized and persecuted at the hands of his
sweet hearts father including many others
for loving and longing madly for Laila
I reckon Gru dutt who lacked the good
appearance of a movie hero and pradeep
kumar who was beefy and plump were
both from my stand point were unfit and
good for nothing for this kind of role of
a grief-stricken skinny majnu

suitability of shammikapoors apperance and acting which he brilliantly and successfully demonstrated
in film Laila-Majnu and swept the audience off their feet in1953 inorder tomake this movie Laila-Majnu
a huge boxoffice hit.
