there are films on Gandhi (Gandhi, Hey Ram), on kashmir and Indian army
(several, but Roja is a famous one), North East and Indian army (Dil Se).
central india (Paan Singh Tomar, Bandit queen among others)...so you see
films are made on all a variety of subjects depending on the availability
