hansaa-hansaa ke shab-e-wasl ashqabaar kiyaa
tasaliyaan mujhe de-de ke beqaraar kiyaa

ham aise mahav-e-nazaaraa na the jo hosh aataa
magar tumhaare tagaaful ne hoshiyaar kiyaa

fasaanaa-e-shab-e-gam unako ek kahaani thi
kuchh aitabaar kiyaa kuchh na aitabaar kiyaa

Astonishment bloomed, where faith took root in vows,
And all the night, I watched for Judgment's shadowed boughs.
Then laughter, in the night's embrace, turned tears to flow,
With soothing words, you stoked the restless, aching woe.

No trance so deep that reason could not break,
But your neglect, a bitter wake, did make.
The tale of sorrowed nights, a simple story told,
Believed in part, in other parts, grew cold.
