Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Ja Re Chandra Aur Kahi Ja Re - (जा रे चंद्र, जा रे चंद्र
Go, oh moon, go away,
Seek another sky to stay.
Go, oh moon, go away,
Find a different place to play.
Krishna of Gokul, He departs at dawn's first ray.
Go, oh moon, go away.
My heart, like Vrindavan, now forlorn and bare,
He leaves with morning's sun, a sorrow hard to bear.
Tears they fall, a flood, a sea where all things drown,
Krishna of Gokul, will depart at dawn's renown.
Go, oh moon, go away.
Eyes now weep, my heart in pain, a story yet untold,
This love, oh friend, this love, why was it known so bold?
My soul it cries, a desperate, yearning sound,
Krishna of Gokul, gone at dawn's profound.
Go, oh moon, go away.
His flute's sweet song, it steals my life's own breath,
My Mohan, friend, He, the gardener of death.
How can my soul, my dearest, now remain?
Krishna of Gokul, leaves within the dawn's domain.
Go, oh moon, go away.
Seek another sky to stay.
Go, oh moon, go away,
Find a different place to play.
Krishna of Gokul, He departs at dawn's first ray.
Go, oh moon, go away.
My heart, like Vrindavan, now forlorn and bare,

Heavenly ! Honey pours in the ears and peace in mind when one listens to
Lataji singing such bhajans. Kudos also to composer Sudhir Phadke, and the
poet Pt. Narendra Sharma. They always created gems. This is a masterpiece !
As always, a beautiful visual presentation, especially with the Odissi
dance pose in the beginning. Thanks Mirzaji.

This 1956 movie song is penned by Narendra Sharma, like the more celebrated
gem from MALATI MADHAV - Bandhi preet phuldol man leke chitchor.. AN all
time great composition. When there was a farmaish for this song when Sudhir
Fadke came to our city, he was very happy by the choice and sang the song.

Mirza Sahib, your taste and choice is superb. Thanks for posting these
"Nayab" pieces of music on YT. No doubt Lata Mangeshkar's voice is soul
soothing.

"...kal ki sun, kal na parey, vikal man pukaare" - simple, yet, beautiful
use of homonyms (yamak alankar); beautiful poetry expressing the longing,
the emotions evoked at the very thought of Krishna's departure tuned to a
sublime melody is dripping in virah ras. Can any song about Krishna be
complete without the lovely flute, used here so delicately to enhance the
mood? Exquisite rendition by Lataji; she has poured her soul into this song
- divinity in musical form! Thanks much, Mirzaji.
