A hunter left his home, with bow and arrow he did stride,
To hunt the birds, to fell them down, into the woods he'd hide.
Upon a branch, two birds did dwell, in joyous, loving keep,
A male, a female, close they were, for each the other's sleep.
The hunter saw the feathered pair, with pleasure in his eye,
He drew his arrow, aimed the shot, and readied them to die.
When eyes met theirs, the birds were filled with terror's icy sting,
Their hearts now whispered, "Flee for life, and let our spirits wing."

They gazed above, their bodies froze, their every limb took fright,
Courage and hope had fled, and fear had stolen all their light.
A hawk above, a hunter here, the earth a killing ground,

Now, hope's last ember flickered out, their final moment near,
The female spoke, "My love, alas, the fates have turned their ear."
"We'll be divided now, my love, this moment draws so nigh,
We've walked together, side by side, but God's will bids us die."
"Mother, did the birds then perish?"
"No, my child, with hearts so true,
They remembered God."

The play of earth, the play of God, none truly understand,
How He protects, His secret ways, beyond our mortal hand.
A serpent rose, from nowhere there, a venomous, dark coil,
It struck the hunter, struck him hard, and poisoned all his soil.
The hunter, startled, lost his aim, the arrow went astray,
The hawk it pierced, the hawk it felled, and stole its life away.
The hunter died, the serpent's bite, the arrow killed the hawk,
