o khanke
khanke kangna bindiya hanse
khanke kangna bindiya hanse
aayenge sajna hamre angna
khanke kangna bindiya hanse
aayi main saj ke unke liye
jhume ye jhumka jinke liye
aayi main saj ke unke liye
jhume ye jhumka jinke liye
baaje re bichhua kahna maane na
khanke
khanke kangna bindiya hanse
aayenge sajna hamre angna
khanke kangna bindiya hanse
saiya ne ulta ghunghata mera
maine bhi hans ke mukhda phera
haye saiya ne ulta ghunghata mera
maine bhi hans ke mukhda phera
jaagti ankhiya dekhe ye sapna
khanke

thamenge jab wo baiya mori
darungi ankhiya kajra bhari
thamenge jab wo baiya mori
darungi ankhiya kajra bhari
kahungi balma humko chhuo na
khanke

Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Khanake Kanganaa Bindiyaa Hanse - ओ खनके
The bangles chime,
the bindi laughs,
bangles chime, bindi laughs,
my beloved will come to my courtyard.
Bangles chime, bindi laughs.
I came adorned, for him alone,
my earrings sway, for him alone.
I came adorned, for him alone,
my earrings sway, for him alone.
My anklets sing, they heed no command.
The bangles chime,
the bindi laughs,
my beloved will come to my courtyard.
Bangles chime, bindi laughs.
My love unveiled my veil,
I turned my face with a smile.
My love unveiled my veil,
I turned my face with a smile.
Awake, my eyes behold this dream.
The bangles chime,
the bindi laughs,
my beloved will come to my courtyard.
Bangles chime, bindi laughs.
When he holds my arm in his,
I will cast down eyes, kohl-filled.
When he holds my arm in his,
I will cast down eyes, kohl-filled.
I’ll say, my love, do not touch me.
The bangles chime,
the bindi laughs,
my beloved will come to my courtyard.
Bangles chime, bindi laughs.
the bindi laughs,
bangles chime, bindi laughs,
my beloved will come to my courtyard.
Bangles chime, bindi laughs.

Like several loris, Lataji has sung several such "suhaag raat" songs. Both
groups are among the sweetest in her repertoire. The other wedding-night
songs by Lataji that I can recall were sung on Rakhi, Meena Kumari, and
Mala Sinha. Each is a memorable piece, but this one may be the most
melodious of them all. Besides, I happen to like Vyjayantimala immensely--
the greatest moviedom dancer ever bar none, besides being a top-notch
actress. Thank you, Suhanee.
