The night's tale whispers, hushed and deep,
A weight of sorrow, secrets to keep.
Damp with loss, a shadow's sway,
A beautiful night, words cannot say.
A whispered word, a truth untold,
A beautiful night, a story of old.

A halting shadow, dark and sly,
Stealing your spirit, passing by.
It asks, this shade, with whispered plea,
"What mark remains? Where will you be?"
Yesterday's presence, vanished from sight,
Where am I now, lost in the night?

Oh, scattered ashes in your sky,
Turning back, where shall I fly?
Smiling, I play the game, I see,
What difference does it make to me?

I've seen and pondered, here and now,
A clamor, a delusion, the time somehow.
I yearn to leave, but cannot break,
This music of the moment, for a child's sake, why?

The scene has stilled, held in its place,
The world congealed, its frozen face.
For ages I have knelt to thee,
Now reach the end, I now decree.
The nights that blazed with vibrant hue,
Are colorless now, the shadows accrue.
The sage then asks, his voice so low,
"Where did you wander? Where did you go?"
A beautiful night, words cannot say,
Becoming a secret, a secret to stay.
