Where to seek, the Radiant Face, I pray,
Where have I beheld its light of day?
From gathering to gathering, I did roam,
And garden to garden, sought a home.

Whom to embrace, and whom to shun and flee?
Though blooms abound, and buds in ecstasy,
The eye that loved, the heart did now despise,
And saw its foe reflected in their eyes.

The spring's bright hues, the morning's rose-filled air,
What care they for, who lost their reason there?
Whose gaze, in one lone bloom, did comprehend,
The whole, vast garden, its beginning, end.

The stains of faith, the blood of those who knew,
Do fly afar, for all the world to view.
Those who did watch my anguish and my pain,
Have seen their own, their garments stained like rain.

Believe them now, whatever you may deem,
For this is solace, a flickering gleam,
Those whom you saw, in that dark, shadowed place,
Besmirched with dust, upon their fallen face.
