I said it means lover but a male lover. If u agree it means lover then u'd also know that Sanskrit mahi doesn't mean lover like it does in punjabi. Sanskrit one refers 2 fish, or maha- meaning big.
So if ur saying he is calling her his fish or calling her huge then ok. A girl'd whack a guy in the head if he called her a fish or big incase u wanna use this term of endearment. Instead of agreeing tht yes lyricists r lacking in their language skills ur putting a pointless argument.

Lyricists really need a lesson in using punjabi words correctly. Mahi is a term used for a MALE lover by a female. It is not meant to be used by a guy to refer to his girl. It's like a guy calling a girl his Boyfriend. That makes no sense.
