Lyrics of Mere Mehboob Tujhe, Meri Mohabbat Ki Kasam (By Lata)
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
phir mujhe nargisi aankhon ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
ae mere khwab ki tabir, meri jaan-e-ghazal
zindagi meri tujhe yaad kiye jati hai
raat din mujhko satata hai tassawwur tera
dil ki dhadkan tujhe awaaz diye jati hai
aa mujhe apni sadaao ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
yaad hai mujh ko meri umr ki pehli wo ghadi
teri aankho se koi jaam piya tha maine
meri rag rag me koi barq si lehrayi thi
jab tere marmari hatho ko chhua tha maine
aa mujhe phir unhi hatho ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
samne aake zara parda uthha de rukh se
ek yahi mera ilaaj-e-gham-e-tanhayi hai
teri furkat ne pareshan kiya hai mujh ko
ab to mil ja ke meri jaan pe ban aayi hai
dil ko bhuli hui yaado ka sahara de de
mera khoya hua rangin nazara de de
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
mere mehboob tujhe
mere mehboob tujhe meri mohabbat ki kasam
phir mujhe nargisi aankhon ka sahara de de

Poetic Translation - Lyrics of Mere Mehboob Tujhe, Meri Mohabbat Ki Kasam (By Lata)
By the oath of my love, my beloved, I implore,
By the oath of my love, my beloved, I implore,
Grant me solace in your narcissus eyes, restore,
My lost, vibrant vision, forevermore.
By the oath of my love, my beloved, I implore.
O, interpreter of my dreams, my soul's own song,
My life, it yearns for you, though days are long,
Your image haunts me, where I don't belong,
My heart beats out your name, where shadows throng.
Come, give me the comfort of your melodies,
Restore my lost, vibrant vision, at ease.
By the oath of my love, my beloved, I implore.
I recall that first hour of my youthful years,
When from your eyes, a sacred wine I drank,
A blessed lightning coursed through all my spheres,
As your marble hands, my trembling soul, they flanked.
Come, grant again the touch of those dear hands,
Restore my lost, vibrant vision, as it expands.
By the oath of my love, my beloved, I implore.
Come forth, and lift the veil from your sweet face,
This is the only cure for this lone pain,
Your absence has caused me such a desolate space,
Now, reunite with me, lest I remain,
Give my heart the comfort of forgotten lore,
Restore my lost, vibrant vision, evermore.
By the oath of my love, my beloved, I implore.
By the oath of my love, my beloved, I implore,
Grant me solace in your narcissus eyes, restore,
My lost, vibrant vision, forevermore.

vlohani: let me take a wild guess and say you are a Rafi fan? What gave you
away? That's clouding your judgement a bit. There are a lot of great
singers and we can enjoy all of their great songs - Saigal, Mukesh, Lata,
Asha, Rafi, Kishore, Manna Dey.

With all due respect to Lataji, her version of this song is no where
compared to RafiSaheb's singing. Rafisaheb's singing of this song, as with
many other songs he has sung, simply divine.

Everlasting song sung beautifully by lata ji. For some reason, I find that
there is more emotion and subtleties in Rafi sahib's version. Does anyone
agree?

It goes both ways - In the movie Arzoo (bewitching Sadhana again) both Rafi
and Lata sing the same song - Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan - Lata's was far
better. In terms of longevity, Lata outlasted Rafi. Lata is the better
singer because she had more range - Rafi's voice doesn't go up very high.
But I agree that both are great, and we can be fans of both singers
