Guys, she was one singer who could take on both Lata and Asha. Listen to
her songs in the 50's; nobody will say she wasn't technically equipped.
Listen to the songs of Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam picturised on Meena Kumari,
Waqt ne kiya from Kagaz Ke Phool, Babuji Dheere Chalna, to just mention a
few. This song was actually recorded towards the end of her life, when she
was mentally down. Think of what she was in her prime. An unhappy personal
life played havoc with her career. I guess that is the price you pay if you
are gifted, or are married to someone very gifted..

with the emotions but reinforces it. One of the very few songs of this
genre that grip you and wont let go. it'll make you hum it again and again:
actually make you shut up, close your eyes and just immerse yourselves in
it. Geeta Dutt brings out the anguish and frustration of Tanuja, and the
lyrics of Gulzar are just right and potent!!

This is not so true. She was struggling but was not down and out. Geeta ji
recorded 2 non-film Bengali songs in the year 1971 during Pooja times. They
were fairly successful and she was scheduled to record some more songs in
the year 1972 as well. Her health was not keeping well and finally she
succumbed on 20th July of 1972.

it is tragic to know the circumsstances surrounding the singer at the time
she sang this song,GURU DUTT her husband had comitted suicide at age of
39,because of another actress and Geeta Dutt died of cirrhosis due to heavy
drinking at 42 .this was her last song & she died before film was released
