maine kabhi ye zid to nahi ki par aaj shab
ai mahajabi na jaa ke tabiyat udaas hai

Bring forth the wine, O Saki, for my spirit weeps,
The musician stirs his strings, yet sadness deeply sleeps.
The starlight's gleam, it pierces, a cold and cruel embrace,
O moon, descend and vanish, for sorrow fills this place.

Perhaps your laughter, like a chime, could lift this heavy plight,
My friend, then smile and offer solace to the fading light.
The allure of beauty, a remedy, they say,
Unveil your face, dear vision, for shadows hold their sway.

Though never have I pleaded, nor made such a plea before,
Fair moon-faced one, tonight, I beg you, leave me nevermore,
For tonight, my soul is troubled, and my heart aches and sighs,
Stay with me, do not leave me, for tears well in my eyes.
