ek aisi stree, ek din janmi
pita vishwamitr ka tap tej le
menka maa ka amar saundray le
kintu dharti par padi wo shraap si
ya kisi purnayaatma ki paap si
jyot ye stree ki magar jalti rahi
sapwan pachhi se wo palti rahi
ek din rishi kanw ne aamod me
ek anaathan ko uthaya god me
hom ki jwala yaha jalti rahi
yag mantro me sakun palti rahi

Before creation, a void of knowing,
A silence vast, where nothing was growing.

And the lotus, its gentle, sweet delight.
The new bow, the new arrow, their valiant grace,
A strength to the world, in this sacred space.
The leaf of the banyan, its building art,
And the power to bind, a devoted heart.
When all these virtues began to reside,
Then woman arose, the world’s radiant bride.
When all these elements intertwined,
Then woman was born, of a beautiful mind.

A woman arose, one fateful day,
Bearing the fire of Vishwamitra's way.
And the immortal beauty of Menaka's art,
Yet cast on the earth, like a curse from the start.
Or the shadow of sin from a pious soul,
Her inner light, however, kept making her whole.
She thrived like a dream bird, taking flight,
Then Rishi Kanva, in pure delight,
Took this orphan, cradled her near,
Where the sacred fire dispelled all fear,
And the chants of the yajna, filled her with peace,
As her soul in the holy comfort would increase.
