Beloved Vishnu, you, Nimai, departed alone,
Leaving all behind.
I am akin to you,
A woman born to sorrow.
Behold the vermillion on my parting,
The bangles upon my wrist.

Though bound to this world, yet not of it,
If the vermillion speaks truth, then,
Hear me, Sati by name.
Protect me, Lord, in all my trials.
She alone is the devoted wife,
Who keeps her husband's love ablaze.
I am like you,
A woman born to sorrow.
