ye masalie tasawuf
ye tera bayan galib
tujhe gum bhali samjh
jo gaata gunhagaar hota
hun hum jo ruswa huy
kyu nazer pe dariya
na kabhi janaza uthta
na kahi mazhar hota

These Sufi spices, a taste of you, Ghalib,
Your words, a lament understood with grace.
If the singer was not a sinner,
Why the ocean in our gaze?
If we were never shamed,
No funeral would ever rise,
No tombstone would ever mark this place.
