I am a deeply orthodox Tamil Brahmin from South India, but Qawwali music
was part of our growing up as being a musical family, my late Father played
instrumental accompaniment to many great Qawwali singers from Rajasthan who
would perform near Raja Talkies in Trichy. He would always listen to
Qawwali music in All India Radio those days. He would explain the nuances
of this music as compared to Carnatic music that we practised in our house.

Did Buddhism and Jainism spread through violence? Kalapairas invasion on
Tamil Nadu? Buddhism in Sri Lanka is certainly violent. (Now of course you
would say it is the people who are violent and not the religion itself. But
then, it is difficult to distinguish between the two. I am assuming that
Buddha was not a Buddhist and Maha Vir is not a Jain.)
