Comments on song "Ashai Mugam"
Rachel Bellenoit on September 04, 2011
I'm a musician and I don't understand the negative or crude remarks here.
This is a lovely song sung in a lovely way by these beautiful voices. I
don't understand the comment here that there is no strength in their
voices. This song isn't meant to be sung by a Judy Garland or Barbra
Streisand! The voices compliment the music beautifully. Thanks for sharing
this, Shankar. And thanks for the link in your email to their FB page. I
look forward to hearing more from them.

describe the awesomeness of this song...loved it..!! loved the charanam
starting especially...kannan mugam maranthuponaal.too good...!!!!
Amin Bigapple on September 04, 2011
assuming the word "AShai" derived from Asha..but when you sing the tamil
song we cant mix match right other lang right ? . No doubt this song is
good in all means... but with this "ழ".. missing..its totally .
one drop of poison in a glass milk..no one can drink. pls try to correct
that "ழ"..
srivatsonvchennai on September 04, 2011
@KarmaKomic I guess its a tamil song and not a sanskrit song...Also,
lyricist even doesnt like it to be pronounced it to be like this..Although,
song sounds soothing to ears..But, pronunciation they must correct ..Its
just been said for the improvement..Some words like Ashai, nesham like that
is totally degrading the beautiful composition by the original
composer...If they produce a new song on their innovative ideas..Its
ok.But, while reproducing this kind of evergreen melodies..must be careful

@renuarethi am not intend to pollute music, but we are not goin to tolerate
if some one pollute ma mother THAMIZH . we Thamizhans got the passion in
our blood . to us nothin is Beautiful than "PURE" Thamizh.. if u dont
want such comments stop killing our Language..
anand s on September 04, 2011
awesome song and amazing composition like you have been doing in the past
but please take care of pronounciation :)
G Karthikeyan on September 04, 2011
@KarmaKomic then say them to make the song in sanskrit or malayalam..
its called Thamizh cos its PURE not polluted.. rem tat one of the GR8 PURE
Thamizh literature is written by the prince of Cheran of your state tat
made him Legend... not SHHAA JAA HA or SSA even my roommet is a
malayalee. he accept tat there are different accent in malayalam... lik
tat not all Thamizhans hav the impotency of "ZHA" i accept now some of the
youngsters are ashamed to talk in Thamizh we r not 1 of them.

Hey Shankar.. and you wonderful sisters.. its absolutely a beautiful song.
I remember my father singing this song and I was playing the mridangam for
this. The sisters have a beautiful voice and the clarinet as usual
compliments the song adding a whole new dimension. Keep up the wonderful
work. But like others, could you please please retake the song with word
Ashai, Nesham, Eeshan corrected. I really dont want you to take this wrong
way. The song will just sound even more wonderful then.
sharon susan sam on September 04, 2011
@ all: why don't you listen to others versions of this song and check for
those disputable words?? When people like the priya sisters and the gr8 D K
jayaraman can sing that way, I dont this the tucker trio meant it to be a
negative publicity stunt or even stylizing Tamil language.
Aruneshwar Bharathidasan on September 04, 2011
@nishanthrajamani..those kinds pronunciation is common among the
bhramins.. I've heard it from many...:)

kannan mugam marandhu ponal indha kangal irundhu payanundo?? awesome lyrics
and awesome singing
wisevice on September 05, 2011
this is lovely - shankar's arrangement is just magical. as for everyone
griping about pronounciation, surely any tamizhan worth his/her salt knows
that there are tamil dialects all over India - thirunalveli tamil sounds
different from palakkad tamil which sounds different from coimbatore tamil.
their pronounciation is very much the iyer/iyengar dialect of tamil and is
as valid as any of the other dialects. so calm down and enjoy the music :)
dancingdaisies26 on September 05, 2011
This is AMAZING!!!!! I love their voices and as usual, Shankar, your
background music is out of this world. This has been on repeat for the past

hi on September 07, 2011
@KarmaKomic Haha it's all good.
bliss on September 07, 2011
Great voice. @fearless908. Pronouncing "aasai" is much easier than thozhi,
which the Iyer sisters have pronounced correct :). The clarinet is
soothing. Wish I could play this instrument.
bbddasa on September 07, 2011

Ashai mugam marandu pocce - idai yaridam sholvenadi tozhi ? Nesham
marakkavillai nenjam - enil ninaivu mugam marakkalamo ? I have forgotten
the face of my love, to whom shall I tell this, dear friend ? The heart has
not forgotten the love, is it right to forget the face ? Kannan mugam
marandu ponal inda kangalirindu payanundo ? Vanna padamumillai kandai ini
vazhum vizhiyennadi tozhi ? If I forget his face, is there use for these
eyes ? I do not have even his picture, now how will I live ?
rama devi on September 14, 2011
great song.. pronunciation fits the music.. moreover thats how iyers
pronounce..so cool..
shiiv20 on September 16, 2011
Awesome performance.
Soumya Tilak on September 17, 2011
ppl who have problems with the pronunciations here (aashai, sholven etc), i
hope you are aware that the actual sanga tamizh, is actually "changa
thamizh".. take a look at the history and evolution of the thamizh alphabet
and you would realize that the "ch" (also used as "s" sound in words like
seidhigal - remember how 'sun seidhigal' is written in thamizh?) was the
original letter in the alphabet. and the other "s" sound letter was added
many many years later??
Soumya Tilak on September 17, 2011
fearless 908 - well said!!
Nirosh Siriwardena on September 18, 2011
No comments ... Just outstanding as usual ... Keep up the good work mate ...
Venkat Kumbakonam on September 19, 2011
This song is just melodious. Once i could step beyond my RIGHT
pronunciation, it let me get present to Subramaniya Bharatis lyrical
classic. Again the sisters are just awesome.
