song, thanks for postin and nice clear print...
Pastor Jarnail S. on February 03, 2010
Geeta was really a singing queen of the fifties. Her so many songs are
always fresh when heard and this one is the best example. She is still
"Jawan" through her unforgettable lovely songs. songs. May peace be upon
her.
Belette holt fente on February 04, 2010
A truly great moment in world cinema history. I never tire of watching it.
Pastor Jarnail S. on February 08, 2010
when at the age of sixty plus, sometimes I feel distressed and lonely, I
start listening to this song and thus comforting myself in disappointments.
Further this touching song by melody queen Geeta Dutt reaches the depths of
my soul. She was/is really great and I have not got suitable words to offer
as a tribute. May soul rest in peace.
nandu1f on February 18, 2010
One of O P Nayyar's finest composition. And one of my most favorites on
Shakila. She fleshed out the dancing girl's aspirations and frustrations
very ably. Thanks Yuan.

awesome beautiful
Dilip S. Coulagi on June 23, 2010
Thanks for posting. A couple of comments about translations: I doubt Aar
Paar means this and that. It should mean through and through, no? I may be
wrong. However, 'tak mein hai khiza' definitely does not mean 'it waits for
you' . It means ' autumn is waiting'; this is not the colourful autumn of
the west - this is the autumn of north India, when trees lose all leaves
looking bare, and thus in Urdu poetry Khiza stands for ruination, all
looking bare.sad. Remember OPN's song: DeewanaHuaBadal.
Dilip S. Coulagi on June 23, 2010
In the last antara, the words are 'barson se khiza ka mausam tha, veeran
badi duniya thi meri, hathon mein tera aanchal aaya ke bahar aayi'. It
illustrates the meaning of khiza. Once again, thanks for posting. BTW in
the audio version, the first antara is missing as it used to be in so many
songs of that time, when the song for the audio version had to fit one side
of a 78 rpm record.

This is based on 'put the blame on Mame' by Rita Hayworth, available on
youtube, look for it
Macheendran Keloth on July 26, 2010
This Geeta Dutt song, composed by OP Nayyar, who was known as the Emperor
of Hindi film music, is intoxicating indeed !

The beauty of Geeta Roy's voice and whole personality is like that of a splendid star shining in the night sky. Her life was burdened by tragedies but she left a treasure for us and coming generations in the future, she is immortal. When I think of her life and her tragedy, and the beauty of her songs, she is one of the things that make my life better and more meaningful. One of the greatest stars that ever lived on Earth, in any country.
nandu1f on October 28, 2010
Shakila brings out the turmoil in the dancing girl's heart so well. For
some reason she did not get the recognition of her talents. You can watch
this song many times, without getting tired of it, thanks to OPN. And
thanks to you Yuan, once again.
Egill Bragason on November 08, 2010
I love this song very much. Thank you.
NANDI KHANNA on January 12, 2011
i agree with nandu1f&johnson.

And I was born three years later in 1957.
Egill Bragason on July 19, 2011
The power of feeling and emotion, it is not so much the actual words of the
song but the personality of Geeta Dutt shining through. As long as there
will be movies and as long as there are songs, she is among the brightest
stars. Because her personality is true, she did not need to act. She was
singing herself, and the song could have been about her own life at the
time, also.
suyog kakade on September 29, 2011
I get goosebumps.. every time she says.. "Ae dil" in a slightly husky
voice.. Both Guru Dutt & Geeta ji were way ahead of the time... I listen so
many songs which I feel should have been sung by Geeta. I really wish...
Kerberus Kerberoi on October 18, 2011
Amazingly good song.
Dilip S. Coulagi on December 07, 2011
Thanks for posting the song from the movie. As was common in those days,
the audio version released was shortened by omitting the first antara
(stanza). The song is still available as the shortened audio version so it's
a pleasure to listen to the full version.
Dilip S. Coulagi on December 07, 2011
BTW a little masterpiece by OPN, and big one by Majrooh - such brilliant
lyric! And Geeta's smouldering voice.
arvin20071 on December 10, 2011
A beautiful, haunting song. Thanks for posting.
siddharthas6895 on December 30, 2011
When the actress for the song is Shakeela, 50 marks out of 100 already given. Suddenly, you come to know, it is Geeta Dutt's voice, 50 marks more. 100 out of 100 given. But when you come to know it is O P Nayyar, you want to give 100 marks more. What to do now?
muthushiv on June 10, 2012
Shakila brings pathos so good in this soul song
muthushiv on June 11, 2012
FK...What a depth this actress brings to this soul!
muthushiv on June 11, 2012
May be you are right. But OPN has taken to another level. As the song
progress he used Gita's voice to bring pathos which only Guru Dutt can
capture the acting powress of Shakila. Music has no boundries
muthushiv on June 11, 2012
Glad that you listen to this song...it only will push it to more
depression. Harinaam sankeertan might be helpful

Never knew plagiarism was ripe even in so-called golden era of Indian
Cinema music!!I just heard this song on a Hindi music channel and
immediately realized that's it's lifted from the song "Put the blame on
Mame" from the Hollywood movie Gilda(1946).It's one of my favourite movies
due to a famous role by Rita Hayworth. Those who doubt me just search for
"Put the blame on mame - Gilda" on the youtube search window.DAMN.and we
thought plagiarism started with Anu Malik and Pritam.
Langdutyagi on October 15, 2012
Yes,it feels bad when one's favourite Bollywood song turns out to be a
rip-off,even if you prefer the Bollywood version.Previous cases with me
were "Pyar aaya pyaar aaya(Plan)","Dil samandar (Garam Masala"
...I had seen a programme on Times Now where they were discussing
Bollywood rip-offs and it showed it happened even in 1960s(example is
sayonara sayonara),but after watching this song it seems it started right
after independence..Anyways,expressions aside,Rita Hayworth was unique.
bali suut on December 05, 2012
I never ever tired of this song. It just grows on you . I love this song
though it was out a year before I was born. Most of OP Nayyar composition
are like that.
Mohammad Rahman on April 14, 2013
Beautiful song and music. What an era of Bollywood in those days. What
happened to the quality of lyrics and music these days? There is no song
with out a dance now a days.I think that's what the new generation wants.
It is hard to sing along any of the songs now a days. I used to sing most
of the songs of yester years. Can we get back to the real or old taste of
songs again or is it just a dying wish of a old man?
himsingz on May 08, 2013
Don't be so harsh!! Just the 'hun abhi main jawan ai dil' part has been
copied. The rest, including the orchestral harmony and melody is Nayar's
own (though in the then prevelant latin-american style).
krishna srivastava on May 14, 2013
Listen to a song like this who needs drink !!!!! nothing can be more
intoxciating than the magical combination of OP saheb and Geeta ji. as is
obvious here. listen to a song like this who needs a drink.!!! nothing is
more intoxicating than the magical combination of OP saheb and Geeta ji as
is obvious in this song

Hats off to O P Nayyar & Geeta Dutt for the melodious gem of the golden
era. Shakila so gorgeous with Guru dutt, wonderful upload.

Beautiful song.

Beautiful song, beautiful Shakeela.
Madhu Meeta on April 16, 2015
Parde par Shakeela nasha bikher rahi hain, aur sun ne waalon ke liye Geeta
di. Aise gaane kum hee bane hain. Geeta di, O.P.Nayyar aur Majrooh
Sultanpuri kee ek aisee peshkash jisse log aaj tak naheen bhula paaye.
