this song is very meaningful bcuz it so happens that mahdubala had a
relationship w/ dilip at this time and were having some problems bcuz her
dad was against their relationship and so she actually cried real tears in
this song. The director at the beginning got upset b/c he did not call for
it but then after seeing th ereal footage was really happy that it turned
out well.

oh my my what a beautiful song ..can listen to it over and over again...lata's voice is sheer music in itself ...

Madhubala at her best as an actor-- nothing looks contrived or forced;
rather every expression is coming deeply from her heart. She is living the
role not enacting it, in part because she was in love with DK and there
were serious hurdles in their way, mostly put in by her father. This is a
very moving sad-sweet song; the Madhu-Lata combo is superb in the intended
effect on the viewers.Thanks, Kiaabik.
Princessjasmineariel on May 25, 2008
i agree with u...and also its so sad she actually died yearning for his
love. he did not even visit her while she was in bed! so tragic

Brilliant acting by Madhubaala.

~ नीम्मी और मधुबाला पे picturize किये गये 'अमर' के दो गीत - एक तो ये और
दूसरा 'न मिलता गम..' अपनी अपनी जगह पर बेमिसाल है! केमेरा के तथा कलाकारों के
कितने कम movements हैं, फिर भी they succeed in moving us so effectively! ~
thanks a lot, Kitaabik, for such quality items presented with such high
technical quality!

someone have the lyrics?
villagebelle on September 10, 2008
yes, the love that Dilip claimed for her in the court case (Naya Daur)did
not prove false unlike hers. On that fateful last day she was running a
delirious 105 fever she asked to see Dilip... and died shortly after. Such
a noble beautiful person inside and out, Dilip the man who courted her
seven years never married her, never visited once in her nine years of
illness. As someone said, all the men she knew exploited her, including her
very own father - the most. It couldn't get any sadder.
Princessjasmineariel on September 20, 2008
yeah... her life shows just how life its self is unfair to the nicest of
people...i like dilip as an actor but after he abandoned madhu i disliked
him as a person...i mean so her father didn't approve of him...but the
point was SHE LOVED HIM...the least he could have done was stay with her or
accept her final request to see him before she died...i hope it haunts him
forever...he's t her grave..he's definitely got a stone heart
devender68 on September 24, 2008

Relationships are a complicated affair especially so in our societies.
devender68 on February 19, 2009
Dilip Kumar and Madhu were very deep in love. However the fate had something else for them. Madhu died at a very young age because of her heart ailments. These are other side of life. On screen particulary on this number they had done justice to their role and the music by Naushad is melodious and lyrics if I am not wrong was written by Sakil Badayuain. All these eminent artists have contributed their high standard skills in making the song pupular

Peoples always have a bad habit to interfere in other life personal metter. No one should allow to discussing about whatever you do not know anything. Here I want to inform all of you who have posted their comments about Dlip Kumar & Madhubala. Dlip loved her sincerely. Both were in loving too much even Madhubala love him too much. It was her father who never wanted to get married with Dlip because Madhubala was super hit heroin at all time and he forced her to break all relation with Dlip.

To the one who was departing, I could not meet X2. In my heart remained my
inner thoughts, without disclosure to the one who was departing, I could
not meet. The moonlight could not spread, the moon turned away from me. The
anticipated night did not come. To the one who was departing, I could not
meet. In my heart a storm brews, but my tongue did not open. Clouds
appeared but to rain came. To the one who was departing, I could not meet

I remember realing in a Filmfare Magazine in the late 1980s that Madhu used
to profess undying love to both Dilip and Premnath (RK's brother in law).
Both of them tricked Madhu and got her into a room with a microphone
connected to a loud speaker outside. When Madhu mouthed sweet nothings to
both Dilip and Premnath in turn the whole set heard it. Does anyone
remember this story? As for Dilip not visiting Madhu in her death bed - was
she not married to Kishore at that time,

If asked to pick just one Great Hindi Film song - this is it. From the
greatest of them all - Naushad ! who revelled in films by Mehboob Khan,
Remember Nagari Nagari, O Gaadi wale etc?

Tthe people mentioned had love affairs with full knowledge and consent of
both about the consequences of such affairs. Some are dead and gone, some
others are old so let us leave them to lead their lives and get on with
ours. By the way the song is very nice.
Laguerhostiaya on March 16, 2010
Don´t care too much about the subtle details. It´s the old story of love
wichi is forced to be interrupt and makes it stronger, which is present in
all cultures and specially ( I think) in India. Beautiful song that
expresses it all in the language of music.
