This incredible song is truly unique. There is only a background
instrumental help (possibly Jaltarang or something akin to it). No tablas,
non other any of dozens of musical instruments. The creators of this
fantastic exceptional melody are no less than geniuses. One cannot
describe in words the talents and voice of one and only Geeta Roy. She
remains the pride of Bengal and India. The picturization by Tanuja is
truly awesome. This proves that such top class romantic songs can be made,
without reverting to the present day vulgarism.

Guys, she was one singer who could take on both Lata and Asha. Listen to
her songs in the 50's; nobody will say she wasn't technically equipped.
Listen to the songs of Sahib Biwi Aur Ghulam picturised on Meena Kumari,
Waqt ne kiya from Kagaz Ke Phool, Babuji Dheere Chalna, to just mention a
few. This song was actually recorded towards the end of her life, when she
was mentally down. Think of what she was in her prime. An unhappy personal
life played havoc with her career. I guess that is the price you pay if you
are gifted, or are married to someone very gifted..

the music is superlative in spite of being very light: does not interfere
with the emotions but reinforces it. One of the very few songs of this
genre that grip you and wont let go. it'll make you hum it again and again:
actually make you shut up, close your eyes and just immerse yourselves in
it. Geeta Dutt brings out the anguish and frustration of Tanuja, and the
lyrics of Gulzar are just right and potent!!

Very memory of Geeta Dutt left a pain... What a woman, hers was love
marriage with Guru Dutt..who was a dreamer, exceptional persona...i think
he was born way ahead of his times. He should have.born in this era where
we are bit open in experimenting in.art, with camera and art of story
telling...

Be it waheeda or what but she stood by him whenever he needs
her...andnytimes lending her voice to woman who allegedly took her
man.away.
What pains me more is...she drank herself to death and destruction after
Guru Dutt.
She died after one year of his dearh..liver cirrhosis!!!
