Geeta Dutt last sung for Waheeda in Kaagaz ke Phool (1959) in ek do tin. The song waqt ne kiya is not a playback song. In Kala Bazar (1960) she was supposed to give a playback which she subsequently refused. So you can see the duet is in background. In Chaudhvinka Chand, Lata sang for Waheeda in badle badle mere sarkar..'. In Sahib Bibi aur Ghulam her songs were sung by Asha Bhonsle and Geeta sang for Meena Kumari. In fact Geeta is said to be instrumental in slashing Waheedas role in SBG

A beaut, as some people might say in the U.S.! And notice that lovely
close-lipped smile of both Nanda and Waheeda Rehman. No wonder they have
remained close friends for decades. (Actually, WR once said something to
the effect that both had so many crying roles that they decided to hang out
with each other as a relief from constant tears on the screen. Misery loves
company, as the saying goes.). Thanks, COS.

This Barssat song is more significant and interesting for me, in view of
presence of my favourite star Waheeda Rehman. Beautiful number by Rafi
Sahab and Geeta Dutt with rich lyrics by Shailendra and fine composition by
S D Burman. I don't know about its popularity or standing in media wordl,
but for me, it is a great song. Thank you for excellent video presentation.

I agree ! Vijay Anand was very different from other directors and his song

'Kala Bazar' was a 'sangam' of so many talents in the Hindi film industry
of its time. And this song! Wah! There have been innumerable
'barsat-baarish' songs but none come anywhere near this marvellous duet!
Every time I hear this song, I almost rush and open my umbrella! Aaaah!
Those were the days of wonderful movies with exquisite evergreen songs.
And, like wine, the songs get better and better as the years go by.

"Vijay Anand is widely attributed as one of the finest in the industry in
terms of positioning a song in a movie & its picturisation. He can be
safely credited with some of the finest Navketan releases since the late
1950-s.
Vijay Anand has gone on record in an interview (which I’m unable to trace
now) that SD Burman was very perceptive about the power & impact of the
medium of films & took a keen interest in understanding the situation of a
song & its context in the landscape of the entire movie.
In the same interview he has mentioned about a particular incident where it
was SD Burman who had suggested that the song ‘Rimjhim ke taraane le-ke
aayi barsaat’ in Kala Bazaar (1960) be picturised on the hero & heroine
with the song playing only in the background. Vijay Anand immediately liked
the idea & thus was the lovely Rafi-Geeta duet created.
In my opinion, this song, with visuals of a rain-lashed promenade of South
Bombay, the fleeting images of flashbacks & the muted yet expressive faces
of the debonair hero Dev Anand & the dainty heroine Waheeda, is one of the
best-picturised songs in the annals of Indian movies. It is as timeless as
the Raj-Nargis duet from Shri 420, thanks to SD Burman who had suggested on
how to picturise it."

Absolutely beautiful n breathtaking summing up the story of film so far.
This is a classic example as to how best love can be coney ed through eyes
n body movements without touching/caressing each other, unlike present
times. Truly a classic film Kala Bahar with this classic song. In fact all
the songs were hit. My all-time favorite songs n movie. This film has
another distinction - all 3 Anand Brothers- Chetan, Dev & Vijay have acted
in this movie. A timeless classic indeed!
