Comments on song "Tere Mere Milan Ki Ye Rainaa"
Nejiboud on September 14, 2009
So at what point does Hindi become Urdu, I mean how many percent of foreign words are supposed to be used for Hindi to be considered Urdu (since they're both dialects of the same language), are there strict formulas? Did Persian only impact "Urdu" and not any other South Asian languages? Can Hindi have any Arabic or Farsi words?
sameer137 on September 14, 2009
Moreover, it's the script that differentiates. Devnagri or other Brahmi
scripts as opposed to Persio~Arabic. And yes, many south asian languages
are influenced by persian. So what?
Nejiboud on September 14, 2009
I am schooled in Urdu, and it is absolutely not true that in "pure Urdu" (even the academy hasn't yet defined what that is), there are no nouns/adjectives/adverbs from Sanskrit origin, in fact, a majority of them ARE of Sanskrit origin. I know exactly what Urdu is, it is quite apparent that you need to look up Urdu in a linguistics guidebook or in an encyclopaedia.
Nejiboud on September 14, 2009
Many people think Hindi is not supposed to contain Persian or Arabic words, when it is only natural that it does, since colonisation by foreigners doesn't confine itself to select groups or languages. So thats why I think it is silly to argue if in songs or movies, if the dialect is Urdu or Hindi, scholars of both languages agree that in its spoken form, both are the SAME, they differ in literary forms.
PakLovesIndia on September 16, 2009
This song is not pure Urdu or Hindi. It more like Hindostani language which
is a middle ground of Hindi and Urdu. The Hindi from East is more
influenced by Sanskrit and Hindi from West is influenced by Persian.
Actually Bollywood's 90% music is written in Urdu because Urdu was
developed for pure poetry,
Gviv82 on September 17, 2009
OMG, they remind me of Rani and Abhi so much here.
Kkamaz1 on September 17, 2009
I think one should not get into this controversy of Urdu or Hindi words in this song. One should only admire the lyrics and music and enjoy the song.
krishnaxyz on September 30, 2009
all out performance by jaya bhaduri... though mediocre and subdued acting by amitabh especially in this film. my feeling

you have no idea what u r talking about !! that's it.
PakLovesIndia on October 31, 2009
That conversation was started by somone who is really alergic to word
"URDU" It was a good dialouge.
Pearl Harbor on November 01, 2009
i agree with u dude that urdu uses persian (more than arabic), turkish,
sanskrit words and i agree with sameer too as the grammar is purely
sanskrit. urdu is not an inferior language, it's very poetical language. so
indians love it and it was originated in india. very true ... let's not
make such comments because the purpose is to enjoy the songs.
Pearl Harbor on November 01, 2009
i said u have no idea. :) BTW, there is nothing called east and west hindi.
there is pure hindi based on sanskrit and modern hindi (can call it urdu or
may be it's mixued of hindi and urdu) borrows a lot from persian, much more
than arabic. urdu is highly poetic because persian is known to be a classic
poetic language, arabic is not on that standard like persian. :) did i say
too much ?

i've only heard anjum chaudary once, he isn't the best guy in the world, but listening to him is a 1 billion times better than listening to you. Anti-Racism groups in UK widely condemned this report as Islamophobic. Sorry to break it to you. Marrying your cousin is not sunnah, sunnah comes from the hadith, and there is no hadith about marrying cousins. good God why don't u go to sleep already. Its just a song!
realityindian on November 01, 2009
LOL!! Sanskrit is not adoped from Farsi or any other language. Milan is a pure Sanskrit word, you dont know a word of Sanskrit and are barking like a dog!

Milan, milaap, mel, mela : all have the similar meaning of meeting or meeting place.

The Bollywood movies and songs are in Hindi.
If you want to know what urdu is you should opne up Ghalibs works - thats urdu.

99% of Indians dont understand what Ghalib wrote, because it is mongrel urdu.

Therefore Bollywood movies and songs are in Hindi.
realityindian on November 01, 2009
Indians dont understand urdu.
Ghalib wrote in urdu, Hindi speakers cannot understand what he wrote because it was urdu.
The censor certificate reflects the view of the entire cast and crew of the movie including the writer/lyricist. Ofcourse this is a Hindi song and therefore the certificate says Hindi.
realityindian on November 01, 2009
"Jaa kar so jaao" is pure Hindi - no persian or arab or turk would understand what it means.
Secondly it is dimaag, not dimaak.

How many times do I have to explain that the censor certificate is FILLED BY THE CAST AND CREW OF THE MOVIE!! The lyricist is part of the team that fills out the censor certificate application mentioning the language.
realityindian on November 01, 2009
The entire grammar "jaa kar so jao" is Hindi. The construct "kar" is derived from the root "karm" which means "to do". "So" is derived from "Shaya" which means in Sanksrit to sleep (similar word is "swapn" which means to dream).

I dont know how it cant fit into your skull that that Sultanpuri was part of the team who filled out the censor certificate application and put in Hindi as the language. That reflects the view of the entire cast/crew of the movie.

So, the true pakiness finally comes out. Anyway, Kashmiris are fighting the militants alongside the Indian army. The government in Kashmir is elected by the people in an election certified by the UN as free and fair.

Heres to you losing your family as well. Cheers!
a2dal on November 01, 2009
I wouldn't have even said that were it not for your statement about my parents. you brought it on to yourself, and you were asking for it. those Kashmiris are puppets; and the UN has made several resolutions calling for kashmiri independence! We will all die one day. G'nite!
a2dal on November 01, 2009
you left the argument about whether songs are in hindi or urdu b/c u obviously didn't know what u were talking about, and now you want to declare almost 1/4th of the worlds population, that is 1.5 Billion out of 6 Billion+, as Terrorists. and all this based on a few incidents. there is no sense talking to you, as you are a maniac. Dawood Gilani was a White convert, he was born a Christian. Get ur facts right. I will no longer dignify ur posts with a response. I hope we debate in person 1 day

Jayaji's one of those magical performances. Amazingly elegant.
roganjosh2008 on November 20, 2009
Indeed Kishore Kumar has a record of Jodi Tarey nai chini go..
Interestingly when this was released, we guys were kids - my dad used to sing Rabindrasangeet...& we kids almost believed that this was the Hindi version of the Rabindrasangeet...such is childhood imaginations, that if not corrected could go completely haywire.

Much like some of the comments on this song that leads to discussions on terrorism etc ! LOL!!

Kishoreda and Lataji at their divine best!
Ahmed Hemani on March 07, 2010
Majrooh Sultanpuri's poetry set to score by SD Burman and the incomparable
voice of Kishoreda and Lataji - divine mix. Maybe it is generation gap -
but I do miss the poetry and dominance of vocals over instrumentals in that
golden era of Indian music
