Like to add to Milahi1935's perceptive comment. I saw the movie with it's
gut wrenching theme of unfaithfulness in marriage and the betrayal of love.
It takes a mature adult to appreciate the way the volcanic burst of
emotions are handled by everyone - Sunil, Leela Naidu, the lyricist
Rajendra, Ravi the composer and yes the one and the only Rafi. One of the
truly artistic greats in Indian cinema!

it is based on true incident happened in Mumbai with one naval officer. It
is called Nanavati case. If my info is correct, those days we had jury
system- the jury found the husband who shot and killed his friend NOT
GUILTY. After this case the jury system was abolished.
